A gentle reminder

Before you ping a colleague, ask AI first.
Their focus is worth more than a quick answer.

Stop. Open an AI tab first.

You're about to open Slack, type someone's name, and fire off a question. Most of the time, you don't need to.

Most questions people ask colleagues are questions an AI can answer in under 10 seconds — and answer well. Every time you skip that step, you're spending someone else's focus, flow, and time on something that didn't require a human at all.

This isn't about being cold or antisocial. It's about respecting attention — yours and theirs. AI assistants exist specifically to absorb this kind of cognitive load. Use them.

Humans are still essential. Just not for everything. Not even close to everything.

Don't do this. Do this instead.

One habit change. Massive impact on everyone around you.

If you're about to ask this, try AI.

These aren't edge cases. They're most of what people ask colleagues every day.

⌨️ "How do I do X in Python / SQL / JS?"
🔴 "What does this error mean?"
📖 "Can you explain this concept?"
✉️ "Help me write this email"
⚖️ "What's the difference between X and Y?"
📋 "Summarize this doc / thread / PR"
🔍 "Review my code / draft / plan"
🗺️ "What are the steps to set up X?"

When it's actually time to ask.

There are real cases where humans are irreplaceable. These are them.

🔐 Context only they have — internal systems, past decisions, org history
Decisions with real-world consequences that require accountability
🤝 Sensitive, political, or interpersonal situations
🧭 Strategic judgment that requires knowing the full org context
🚫 When you've genuinely tried AI and it failed or hallucinated — then, and only then, ask a human.

Pick one. Ask before you ping.

Any of these will answer most questions faster than a colleague can read your message.

Add it to your signature.

Put this in your email, Slack bio, or GitHub profile. One link, zero explanation needed.
